Hi,
Do you think that the reason the opposition is so unsuccessful is because of the apathy of singaporeans?
It seems to me that this could be the case. Should similar incidents happen to opposition leaders in other fair democracies in the world, the people will rise up to protest the violation of rights. Where as in Singapore, only a few bother. Most are too comfortable living the way they are that they do not even CARE if they do not have the rights they should have in a fair democracy.
I believe that they think the PAP is doing a reasonable job, and rather settle for status quo then try for anything else.

Also, can you enlighten me what happens when the opposition tries to gain popular support by presenting their policies etc. I was having a discussion with some friends recently, and(perhaps because we are still quite ignorant) we felt that while the opposition was excellent at pointing out PAP's flaws, they provided no real solutions to the problems. I try to imagine, but i have no feel of how any opposition member will run the government should they ever manage to come into power.
Of course, running the campaign this way will mean that the opposition should try to remain on the high ground, and as best as possible deflect accusations and attacks by the PAP.

Just my opinion.
